The short version. Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up or buy through one of them, I may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. I only write about tools I have actually used or analyzed, and a commission never changes what I tell you. If something is not worth paying for, or the free version is enough, I will say so.
That is the whole promise. The rest of this page explains how it works, so you can decide for yourself how much weight to give anything I recommend.
How affiliate links work
An affiliate link is an ordinary link with a small tag on it that tells the company you arrived from this site. If you then sign up or make a purchase, the company pays me a commission for the referral. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise. There is no markup, no surcharge, and no difference to you at all, whether you use my link or find the product on your own.
Some commissions are one-time. Some are recurring, meaning I earn a share of a subscription for as long as you stay subscribed. I mention this not because it changes my advice, but because you deserve to know where the incentives sit.
What a commission does not do
This is the part that matters, because affiliate income only works over the long run if you can trust what I write. So here is what I hold myself to.
I only recommend tools I have actually used or analyzed. If I have not tested something myself, I say so plainly, and I treat it as a description rather than a verdict.
I name the real tradeoffs. Every tool has a catch, and I would rather tell you the catch than pretend it is not there. You will often find me pointing out where the free version is enough, or where a cheaper option, or no purchase at all, is the honest answer.
A commission never decides the verdict. If two products pay me differently, that has no bearing on which one I think is better for you, and I will not steer you toward the one that pays more.
I would rather lose a commission than your trust. The whole point of this site is to hand you the calculator so you can run the numbers yourself. That does not work if I am quietly selling you something.

For transparency, here are the affiliate relationships this site currently has. The list changes as I add or drop programs, and I only list a program here once I am genuinely enrolled and its links are actually in use.

If I ever publish something that goes beyond a standard affiliate link, such as a paid or sponsored piece, I will label it clearly and separately. As of this writing, I do not run sponsored content.
How to spot an affiliate link here
Any article that contains affiliate links carries a short disclosure near the top, before the first link, so you are never caught off guard. Links to products, tools, brokerages, or books may be affiliate links. Links to my own pages, to sources, and to general information are not.
You never have to use my links. If you would rather not, you can always search for the product directly and sign up the ordinary way. It costs you nothing either way, and it will not change a word of what I have written.

Everything here is educational, general, and not tailored to your situation.
